Plenty of parking and easy access still at Burleigh

May 2024: There is still plenty of access and parking at Burleigh Heads even as construction work ramps up for the light rail due next year.

Red Hot Cod, being right on the Gold Coast Highway, will be served so well by the new light rail station planned for just up the road.

In the meantime, there is still plenty of parking and access to Burleigh. Locals know the public car park off Connor Street is a great go-to and visitors can take advantage of that on their Burleigh trips. The James Street and Park Avenue street parking turns over pretty quickly so your chances of jagging a park there are good too. The West Street parking up the hill offers dozens of spaces as well.

So if you’re on your way to Burleigh Heads and Red Hot Cod don’t fret about where you’ll park, there are many options.

The light rail construction is now only at night so disruption to the roadways has been kept to a minimum. Don’t forget to order online and then swing by to pick up your premium fish and chips, amazing burgers, Indonesian street food dishes and poke bowls.

It’s nice to finish on top of these polls, and we’ve always been at the top of this one, but the real win for us is happy customers.

And to be honest there are a handful of customers whose expectations haven’t been met and we really learn from those comments too.

Gluten free options our Red Hot specialty

January, 2024: Red Hot Cod Burleigh has a load of mouth-watering gluten-free options to make your meal the best it can possibly be.

The same with our fish, of course you can have it grilled fresh or we can coat it in our delicious GF batter.

Our Tofu Poke Bowl, Fresh Aussie Tuna Poke Bowl and Fresh Tassie Salmon Poke Bowl are all gluten free dishes, and will have your taste buds doing the happy dance from the first bite.

Another gluten-free favourite is out Coconut Beef Curry. Long before Red Hot Cod we had one of Australia’s bst Indonesia street food takeaways called Red Hot Wok and some of the crowd favoyrites from that time have stayed on the menu. The GF Coconut Beef Curry is one!

Picnic time at Burleigh

As the warm sunshine beats down on beautiful Burleigh Hill we can only think one thing – picnic time!

Red Hot Cod has all your picnic needs sorted – amazing views, kids playground, sandy beaches, shady trees and loads of parkland to laze around on.

OK, so we didn’t supply all that; it’s just part of being in Burleigh!

But what we can supply are all your picnic needs – from the simplest fish and chips feast to the personalised menu for all (Bali bowl for him, beef burger for her, nasi goreng for that guy, calamari for the other guy …. we have it all covered).

Business as usual despite light rail works

July, 2023: Red Hot Cod is firing on all cookers every day of the week even as the construction associated with the light rail moves into the streets of Burleigh Heads.

The Gold Coast Light Rail will link Burleigh and Broadbeach by 2025 and the construction has begun to disrupt the roads and streets around us.

But everything stays the same, if not better, for Red Hot Cod fans. Drop in as usual, phone ahead or order online and pick up!

ORDER ONLINE

Be aware that parking access is a changeable thing during the light rail construction as the work crews progress along the route. So order ahead, find a park nearby and pick up your Red Hot Cod feast. (We know the off-street car parks in Connor Street and Park Avenue are safe bets. Only minutes walk away).

And to all our mates busy building the new tram line, thanks for copping the night shift to avoid as many traffic snarls as possible. No doubt we’ll get to know you pretty well over the coming year!

Sensational new $5 Parmi Burger

June 6, 2023: This is not a misprint. Red Hot Cod has just added the $5 Parmi Burger to its winter menu.

Dine in, order online or take away, you can get the sensational Parmi Burger after 4pm any day.

It’s everything you love about the Italian classic turned into an Aussie favourite. And of course, we had to shorten its name.

The “Parmi” is the go to for all of us as we glance down a restaurant menu. Now Red Hot Cod have taken that Parmesan-driven flavour boost and put it on a burger.

It’s genius. It’s delicious.

So get down to Red Hot Cod at Burleigh Heads for your Parmi Burger.

At that crazy price you can add your selection of chips, spring roles, fish, Nasi goreng or any other menu faves.

See you soon!

Thanks for the gongs

We just get amongst our work of fresh food served daily, so it’s nice, particularly for our terrific team, to have others notice.

The classic premium fish and chips is hard to go past of course but we have seen a hefty appetite for our Bali Bowls and Poke Bowls. Healthiest fun you can have at meal time! And the Nasi Goreng – wow! We’re really proud of that humble little bowl, as it comes straight from the old Red Hot Wok menu and would hold its own on any Indo street food market.

Three Best Rated uses a bunch of criteria to make their selection – so it’s not just our usual charm and good looks.

Thanks to TBR but also to all our great staff who contributed to another Red Hot Cod podium finish. Here’s their report card:

New summer menu

December 2021: We have just launched our 2021 summer menu and it is a beauty.

It contains all your favourites plus a few tweaks here and there. The world’s obsession with avocado continues so there are more options to add that green god of fruits to your meal.

We’re running with skates on (that’s really hard to do, by the way) as the Christmas rush coincides with a sudden summer sunshine surge at Burleigh.

We will ensure everyone gets their fill of premium fish and chips and Indo street food before we tools down for a short Santa break.

Red Hot Cod will be closed Christmas Eve (Dec 24, Christmas Day (Dec 25) and Boxing Day (Dec 26). We’re back, playing with our new toys from Christmas on December 27.

See you then.

Best in Burleigh and No.1 on all Gold Coast

March 2021: Red Hot Cod is beaming from gill to gill. On March 18, The Gold Coast Bulletin pronounced our great little shop the No.1 fish and chips restaurant on the Gold Coast for 2021.

We’ve been no.1 in Burleigh for four years running, but to be judged the best in Australia’s sixth largest city has us shaking with so much excitement our scales are falling off!

Thanks to everyone who voted for us, to our wonderful customers who keep coming back for more. It drives us to try even harder, knowing you love what we do.

So if you’re passing by, drop in for the “best fish and chips on the Gold Coast” (don’t think we’ll get tired of saying that for a while yet!)

Here’s what they said about us in the Bulletin:

Join us in booming Burleigh

January 2021: Maybe it is the rainforest of Burleigh Headland National park, or the beach breaks or the boutique shopping – maybe it is Red Hot Cod – but for whatever reason 2021 has started with a bang in Burleigh.

Holiday makers and locals have been stopping by in droves to enjoy their fresh cooked fish, poke bowls, bali bowls, sweet potato fries and the best salads on the coast.

Certainly Burleigh is busy and we’ve seen the number of apartments and homes being sold as people strive to be part of this great town.

Not too far away is the light rail that will connect us with the northern reaches of the Gold Coast. To be totally honest, we’re not at all looking forward to the construction but beyond that it will make getting around the city pretty easy.

So if you’re passing by or fancy the best fish and chips in Burleigh drop in and say hi. We’re always up for chat.

We’re still the best in Burleigh

March 2020: Red Hot Cod was voted the top fish and chips restaurant in Burleigh in the 2020 Best of the Gold Coast contest.

It’s the third year in a row that we’ve landed number 1 in Burleigh and in the top 10 across the whole Gold Coast.

The annual ranking is released by the Gold Coast Bulletin after surveying readers.

So we just want to say thank you to all the wonderful folk who voted for us. Our customers mean the world to us so to get accolades like this is pretty heart-warming.

We’ve added a few new things to the menu this year and we just want to keep improving. We love the comments of Facebook and Instagram, so keep them coming. If there’s anything we can do to stay your number 1 we’re up for it.

(Kizza – our superman – just said there are some things he won’t do, even for you. That’s fair enough. Sim, on the other hand ….

But if you can’t here is an excerpt from the Gold Coast Bulletin:

The Gold Coast is hooked on fish and chips, but who fries the best of all? Gold Coast Bulletin reporter Amber Macpherson has reeled in the top 10 as voted by readers.

6. RED HOT COD

With a menu full of wild-caught fish you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how inexpensive the options are at this Burleigh Heads shop. “We’re known as the home of the $5 fish and chips lunch special, with wild caught New Zealand fish and chips,” co-owner Simon Scott says. The quality doesn’t end there, though. “We’ve got really good clean oil, the beer batter is super crispy and popular, and we’re really proud we use chips not fries,” Simon says. “The sauces are all handmade in house, and we sell a massive amount of salad and Indonesian street food, something different to offer as well to our wild caught fish and chips.”
